BADMINTON COACHES PRESEASON MEETING

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2026 – 5:00 pm – ZOOM

WEST ALAMEDA COUNTY CONFERENCE – AGENDA AND INFORMATION

NOTE: The WACC principals have made this a meeting for which attendance is required. The head coach is expected to attend the meetings. An alternate representative must be cleared by the school’s AD. If you are unable to attend this meeting, please make sure you have cleared your absence with your school’s AD.

SCHOOL ISSUES

• Please follow your school’s protocol in clearing student-athletes for athletic participation. DO NOT PLAY ANY STUDENT-ATHLETE WITHOUT THE EXPRESS WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM YOUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR. There are frequently problems in the spring cycle.
• League schedule – Questions ?
• Please confirm the starting time of your match

LEAGUE/CONFERENCE ISSUES

• We need to develop a jury of appeals. Gary and Ruby are clearly the longest serving coaches (required by the WACC Constitution) but we need a third member of the committee. Who’s the longest serving badminton coach?

• Postseason meeting – scheduled for Wednesday, May 6 at 6:00 pm – site TBA
• The WACC Badminton Special Rulings are attached.
• All-league nominations are due Monday, May 4. Nomination info will be sent out in late April
• Tournament nominations are due Tuesday, May 5. Reminders will be sent out in late April.
• Tournament (at San Leandro) Format – we need to restructure the tournament, scheduled for Thursday, May 7 and Saturday, May 9. (Arroyo is a D II school now,)
  • That Thursday’s AP tests are African American Studies and Statistics
  • That Saturday is NOT an SAT date.

• The NCS Bracket Development Meeting is on May 10
• The NCS championships are on May 16
• The CIF championships are on May 23

• Recruiting and Undue Influence – Under no circumstances should you or anyone formally or informally involved with your program have any conversation with a student or parent about attending your school.
• Please review SPORTSMANSHIP and the NCS’ Ejection Policy with your student-athletes. This has become a big issue with the NCS.
• The NCS’ website has up-to-date NCS badminton info: cifncs.org. including their entry deadlines
